Try this with your students! I used this with my first grade students and I saw the light bulbs turn on. Usually all of my students can come up with a character and problem in their writing. They get stuck on all of the "stuff" in between and they end their story abruptly....the end.
Using this clock graphic, the students should have at least three "stops" on their journey with their character. Then, around 10:00 and 11:00 we should feel the oh no! that we feel when we watch movies and the good "aha" feeling we get at the end of books. I told my students that their writing should come back to the 12:00 at the end. I told them to think about Magic Tree House (our favorite)....Jack and Annie always come home!
Though it wont work with all types of writing, it will work for many. I thought I would put a new spin on the roller-coaster graphic organizer with the climax, etc.

Slide 3: Prompts for the students. I print these, laminate, and they each get one for their writing folders.
