What better way to get students engaged in nonfiction than with HALLOWEEN!?
This product includes the following nonfiction skills/topics:
Text Dependent Questions
Informational Text Passages
Compare & Contrast
Main Idea & Key Details
Introduce text features with 12 TEXT FEATURE POSTERS! Each poster includes a picture example, the name of the text feature, and a description.
After teaching each feature, students will use the TERRIFYING TEXT FEATURE SORT to match name, description, and picture of each text feature. This activity is great for a center!
Next, teach students the steps of close reading with their very own CLOSE READING CHECKLIST BOOKMARKS! There are 2 passages in this product to use these with.
Each passage includes TEXT DEPENDENT QUESTIONS with a TEXT FEATURE HUNT!
Use the HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN passage and the MAIN IDEA AND KEY DETAILS GRAPHIC ORGANIZER to model how to pick out the main idea and key details of each section in the passage.
Teaching compare and contrast? This product includes a passage called BATS & OWLS which highlights the similarities and differences of these "spooky" creatures. Includes text dependent questions! 2 DOUBLE BUBBLE MAPS included! One option has a section for students to write a compare/contrast paragraph using their thinking map.
Finally, (notice my sequencing word there ;)..) do a fun SEQUENCING activity with a YouTube video showing the steps in the LIFE CYCLE OF A PUMPKIN! Students will follow along by recording the steps on their graphic organizer, which they can use to write their own sequencing paragraph!
HAPPY TEACHING AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
