El Deafo in a Nutshell:
This book is the touching and inspiring story of the author's childhood. As a young child she contracted meningitis which left her deaf. It is told in the format of a graphic novel and follows her as she wrestles with making and keeping friends and trying to fit in and be normal. It follows her from age four to sixth grade and gives the reader a window on the challenges that she faced. It is funny, poignant, and inspiring.
