German immigrants journey into a wilderness that is filled with hardship, tragedy, and adventure in the 1800s.
In the early 1800s, citizens of Germany found themselves locked in a hopeless system which gave all inheritance to the oldest son. Mina's father, the second son saw his chances to have a good life crumble without an inheritance, so he accepted an offer by the Adelsverein, a group of German businessmen, to gather his family and sail to A Paradise Called Texas where they would find their land near New Braunfels. What they found was far from a paradise. Stranded on a Galveston beach in a cold, wet winter, facing the tragic loss of loved ones, hunger, and desertion with no way to reach their promised land, the family gathers their strength and depends on their faith to see them through.
Will they ever reach their land? How can they travel so far on foot in the face of weather and other dangers? Does A Paradise Called Texas even exist? Will they ever find the real paradise?
Like other immigrants seeking new lives in America, Mina and her family face hardships that, today, seems impossibly hard. Readers will empathize with their plots and their emotional experience will produce lasting memories of history
