I like to teach my students the nursery rhyme, Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater with a twist. The house is not only for his wife...it's also for Peter. We clean a pumpkin and we carve a door and windows in it for Peter and his wife. My students use Playmobil people and furniture to set up the house. This is one of my students' favorite fall activities! I suggest to do this activity in October or November. A book I like to combine with this activity is Mrs. McNosh And The Great Big Squash by Sarah Weeks. Mrs. McNosh ends up living in the squash, just like Peter and his wife live in the pumpkin.
I have created a poster and a coloring sheet for my students to use when I teach the poem.
