This is my passion project that I have poured several years into--teaching, conceiving, teaching again, writing, and piecing together.
Sharing the world of philosophy with elementary school students is such a wonderful experience--both for the students and for the teacher--and I have strived to create a resource that will help teachers capture and engage young minds through this topic.
This is a 176-page document that is a novel of a girl named Anya who travels to the South of France for the summer to visit her grandfather, whom she hasn't seen since she was little. As a semi-retired philosophy professor at a local university, Anya's grandpapa helps her discover not only her own past but also the past of the western world, skillfully and ruefully taking her on adventures that relate to the great philosophers, chronologically and thematically throughout time. Thinking she was looking for answers, Anya instead leaves looking for questions...
Weaved throughout the chapters of the story are philosophical writing assignments, philosophical discussion prompts, at-home discussion sheets, in-class activities, and philosophical quotes supporting the content of the novel. At the end of the document you will find a table of contents of writing assignments and of class and take-home discussions, as well as an index of philosophers mentioned, alphabetically.
I hope this novel brings helps open your students' minds...
