I love using thematic tie-ins to get my students writing. This unit provides you with 10 lessons worth of ideas and activities to help your students become better writers. Students will have a book filled with pirate-themed writing prompts that cover both narrative and opinion writing. Students will choose 1 prompt per day for 5 days, then spend 3 days editing their favorite piece. I usually give my students 2 days to "polish" their writing and create an art piece to go with it.
The lessons also include work with adding descriptive phrases and adjectives to their writing. There are pictures for use with circle maps to assit your students in brainstorming descriptive phrases and words, as well as an "adjective dictionary" that you can print right into their writing book so they have the words easily accesible.
Also included is a "Pirate Dictionary" you can provide for students to use with their writing journals.
