DESIGN (Discovering Students Embrace STEM, Innovation, and Generating New Thoughts) is a project-based unit of study for grades 2-4 in which students identify school or community issues. Students utilize the Creative Problem Solving steps to identify a problem, brainstorm solutions, evaluate those ideas, and then choose the best solution to the problem. Students then decide whether they want to tackle a policy change, invention, or engineering feat as the best way to solve the issue. After an in-depth study of the issue and developing a solution, students will then create a documentary film. The film packet guides a class, grade level, or entire program to create films that could be showcased into a film festival. Project boards will also be created (which could also be showcased to show the research behind the project) and the "lagniappe" for this unit of study (as with all my products sold) is a file in which you can print out all the elements of the project board and put on a sample board to show the class as an exemplar.
