This is done after the Thanatopsis lesson. Student analyze A Psalm of Life stanza by stanza for.... #1) Read A Psalm of Life. For each stanza, write exactly what happened. Do not analyze yet! #2) Identify important diction and literary devices used in each stanza., and #3) Analyze the meaning of each stanza. In your analysis, explain the reasons why the author chose to use those literary devices. I use this worksheet to lead into a discussion about theme. Once again, I make them apply Romantic characteristics to the poem (when we are discussing theme).
