Included in this 17-page download are a variety of activities to be used with students as they study A Raisin in the Sun. Package includes a research project, text-dependent questions by scene, double-entry journal prompts, sentence level practice, paragraph development, symbolism and central idea graphic organizers, and more!
These activities are designed to put students at the center of their own learning. Students are actively constructing meaning throughout this play, as well as refining the way that they compose their ideas. Activities range from local (sentence practice) to global (analysis of the meaning of the work as a whole) and allow for differentiation. All lessons are Common Core aligned and ask for students to engage in complex ways with the play.
This is typically a four week unit if students are performing the play in class, annotating/actively reading, writing, and discussing frequently. Extension activities not included, but this is a great play to pull in non-fiction pieces.
No assessments are included because they are not yet solely self-created. However, this is a play that raises many modern day issues and would be a great place to let students explore, research, and write about topics of interest to them!
