This play, A Raisin in the Sun, is easy to teach because of the relatable themes of struggle: financial, familial, and personal. #TheStruggle Students really get into this unit, and especially love these two activities:
-Real World Money Activity with coordinating worksheet guide for students to budget for monthly expenses based on an anticipated career. You may need to alter some figures based on the area you live in, but all numbers were reached by research and my best knowledge. This is a STUDENT FAVORITE that will stick!!
-Listening to and analyzing lyrics to a popular, positive, rap song encouraging young people to keep a good head on their shoulders. I usually have students highlight the lines that encourage or promote education while having them listen to the music video from youtube. Generally, I play it a few times... Because the kids love it so much... actually... because I love it so much.
This unit of 55 pages also comes with:
