After reading the novel A Raisin in the Sun and/or watching any of the movie versions, this quiz and analysis work helps students get into the mindset of one of the characters.
The quiz is in two formats - Word document and PowerPoint - and asks students "which character are you most like". It has 8 quick questions for them to answer to determine with which character they most identify.
Personally, I use the answer to the quiz to have them complete the character analysis work but they could also be given a random character or choose another. The analysis work has three parts - a Bio Poem, a picture collage, and a letter to another character. This work asks them to delve deeper into the character's dreams, roles, and personality. They show their understanding through the poem and collection of images which symbolize and represent the struggles, dreams, and life of the character. They then stretch their thinking to write a letter 10 years after the close of the story about what has happened to them. The letter could be expanded to include citations from the novel so they can make better connections.
Possible rubrics are also included in a document format so they can be edited.
