A Reading Interest Survey for Emergent Readers
A Read, Write, and Draw Book Format
This Reading Interest Survey immerses students in the literacy process by utilizing a book format. Students are asked to read, write, and draw to complete the survey questions.
Understanding our student’s interests and preferences in reading is critical to instructional planning. The completion of the reading survey book provides a window into each child’s view of reading and their literacy development.
Students must read the text present, comprehend what is written, and respond with their own thoughts and opinions. As students work, you are able to observe (and support as needed) their comprehension, writing process, and attention to detail when drawing the picture to coincide with their response.
I find it a joyful way to get to know my intervention students during initial lessons.
