This activity is a fun, hands-on way to connect mathematics to students' lives. Students will brainstorm things that they do, use or eat regularly during the school year or at school. Students will choose an activity to explore from the list (or make up their own), and will then calculate how much time is spent on an activity or how much of an item they use or eat throughout an entire school year.
Students complete the project by completing the statement, "A school year is....." and drawing a picture to go with their statement based on the calculations.
