This is a simple unit I created for my own first grade students to learn about how magnifiers make things appear larger. I have included an accompanying word wall and song/poem. Students will record/draw their own Science Art to display in the classroom. They will observe an object, record (by drawing) how the object appears, and then record (by drawing) how the object appears when observed through a magnifying glass.
I live in Florida, so I am using the Florida State Standards. I am not labeling the standard with my state coding…instead, I’m simply stating the standard (which should be rather generic for First Grade classrooms) on the recording sheet. This makes it easy for administrators and parents to see the merit of our work.
Science Standard: Investigate how magnifiers make things appear bigger and help people see things they could not see without them.

The additional sheets are exactly the same...they are simply either in color or black and white, or they are in half sheets for easy gluing into a science notebook.
