This is a fun and engaging group activity to introduce A Separate Peace by John Knowles. In order to bring the book to life and get students into the time period of the book, students will collaborate in groups to research, compile, and present information about the 1940s and World War II to the class. Each group has a different aspect of the 1940s to present, such as what school was like in the 1940s, what the fashion was like, or World War II propaganda. There are six different groups, and what they have to do and how it will be assessed is included in this activity. This activity helps students improve their research, collaboration, communication, and presentation skills. My students always enjoy doing this activity, and it helps them to better connect with and enjoy the book. It is aligned with Common Core State Standards. It pairs perfectly with my other resources for A Separate Peace.
