A super clear and simple handout that I use in my secondary English classes to cover basic paragraph structure. I find that using the acronym TEAL helps kids remember all of the necessary pieces. It is very similar to MEAL structure (if you're familiar wit that), but I feel that swapping the "main idea" component for "topic sentence" is more concrete and straightforward for students.
Also, I have included a sample paragraph that I have completely made up (I don't want to break your heart, but the "research" I put in there is totally phony). I like to have students go through and see if they can mark up the parts of TEAL present there.
I ask students to hang on to these handouts and refer back to them as much as they need. I have been surprised to find that my students had been using these handouts in their writing for other classes!
