I made these cards to help my Kindergarten students practice comparing numbers. These would be great in January or any time that you are reading books with snowmen in them.
Print out a set (choose either the color set or the black and white set to print). I suggest that if you are using the black and white pages… print out each set and copy the 2 sets onto 2 different colored papers so that students can easily see the which set of numbers belong to which group. Laminate for durability.
In a small group setting, students will choose one number from one of the colored number strips, and another number from the other colored number strips. Students will match numbers one to one with Wicky Sticks. They will circle the extra pictures with a Wicky Stick to show how many more are in the larger number which is the same as how many fewer there are in the smaller number. For example, 10 is 3 more than 7….7 is 3 fewer than 10.
1. Number Strips (laminated)
2. Wicky Sticks or Bendaroos (sticky, bendable sticks)
Look at the example page that follows to see how to use the Wicky Sticks to match up your numbers with 1 to1 correspondence.
CC.K.4 Understand the relationship between numbers of quantities; connect counting to cardinality
CC.K.6 Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, by using matching and counting strategies.
Please download preview file before purchasing as it has the entire unit (minus the black lines).
