Before reading, students will look up vocabulary in context to determine word meaning. (Page numbers are provided for the Signet paperback edition.) After reading, they will answer comprehension questions. These questions can be answered for homework, or they can be discussed in class with a partner or in small groups. The quiz features 10 vocabulary questions (5 fill-in-the-blank and 5 matching), 10 basic comprehension questions (true-false), 5 interpretation questions (short answer in complete sentences), and 5 quote identifications (name of speaker and character spoken to). I have NOT provided an answer key to the quiz since it is not, in the long run, a time saver for a teacher to use a quiz with which he/she is not fully familiar. (Sadly, I've learned this the hard way!) Overall, the vocabulary preview leads students to better basic comprehension, and the comprehension questions will help them to understand characters, interpret meanings, and discuss their insights. The quiz is designed to be a reading check and an assessment of students' interpretive skills and insights.
