The purpose of this project is to understand how ecosystems work. Students will research and design an ecosystem- the home of their favorite superhero! Remember, the superhero’s locations are typically fictional; thus, students will need to study the ecosystem on Earth that best resembles the location of their SuperHero’s home. For instance, if students choose Black Panther (Wakanda), then they will study the ecosystem of a country in sub-Saharan Africa to design the Wakanda ecosystem.
Note to Educators: This project may be completed over the course of the ecosystem unit. For instance, after a lesson on predator/prey relationship the students should be allowed to research the predator/prey relationship for their ecosystem. Or, this project may be completed over the course of ~1-2 weeks at the end of the ecosystem unit. In addition, set the stage to engage! The first day this project is introduced, you may have students enter the room with superhero theme music playing and a few superhero movie posters hanging on the white board. The same concept may be applied to the day students present their poster.
