This sweet little unit has 3 different activities and an assessment for students to practice identifying and creating compound words. These activities are excellent for literacy centers or for small group practice.
This unit will help with teaching the common core standard:
CCSS- ELA L.2.4d~ Use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words (e.g., birdhouse, lighthouse, housefly; bookshelf, notebook, bookmark).
The activities included in this unit are:
Compound Cookies~ Students match cookie halves to create compound words and record the words on their answer sheet.
Cookies in the Cookie Jar ~ Students sort cookie words into words that are compound words and words that are not compound words. Students record their sort in the cookie jars on their recording sheet.
Baking Up Some Compound Words ~ Students sort cookies with words on the correct cookie sheet, creating a compound word. Students record their new words on their answer sheet.
Compound Word Assessment ~ Students complete an assessment with creating and identifying compound words.
An answer key is provided for all activities.
