Pages 3-5: Amazing Word Cards
Pages 6-10: Spelling Word and Challenge Word Cards
Pages 11-13: Word Wise (I print the word cards out and laminate them). Students choose seven words from the word cards. Write sentences using each word. List other words with similar spellings to the words you chose.
Pages 14-16: Word Work: (I print the word cards out and laminate them). Students choose twelve word card words and write them in the column. Say each word aloud. Write a rhyming word next to each word. Circle the rhyming sound.
Pages 17-18: Let’s Write! (I hang up the formal letter poster to help students remember what a formal letter is). Students write a formal letter to a scientist asking a question. Use commas in your greeting and closing. Make sure to write complete sentences.
Pages 19: Words To Know: Students find four unknown words in magazines, newspapers, or books. List them and look up their meanings. Write sentences using each word.
Page 20: Read For Meaning: Students read a Leveled Reader. Pay attention to its graphic sources. Write sentences telling information given in two graphic sources.
Page 21: I included a portion of A Symphony of Whales for students to read for fluency.
