This packet was designed to support student learning and understanding of Lisa Graff's novel, A Tangle of Knots. I like to provide opportunities for students to be independent and this packet helps ensure their understanding.
Cover: Before reading, I use the cover to make predictions and infer what the story will be about.
Story Map: Depending on my planning, I either have the students fill in the chart as they read, or as a culminating activity.
Vocabulary and questions: As students finish each chapter, they are expected to complete the vocabulary and questions. Modify for students as needed.
Comprehension Questions expect students to:
-retell important events
-draw conclusions, make inferences
-identify and explain figurative language
-answer higher order thinking questions
Open Response: As a final culminating activity, I like to have student respond to the question that focuses on problem and solutions.
