Who stole the pies for the annual Thanksgiving Feast?
This fun activity has students up and moving to solve multi-step problems. Students solve the problems and each correct answer gives them a clue in figuring out who took the pies, where they put them, and why they took them.
Just print and go- hardly any prep, other than cutting out 10 problems, is needed!
Included is a letter to the students about the mystery they have to solve, 10 multi-step problems involving larger number multiplication (up to 3 digit by 2 digit), long division, and addition and subtraction of larger numbers, student answer sheets encouraging students to show their work, and answer keys for all the problems. Additionally, there is a QR code on the answer sheet that students can use to check their work when they have completed the activity if you have access to tablets in your room. The answer sheet contains more than just the answer- it shows students how to solve the problem, which really helps students to figure out where the errors in any incorrectly solved problems lie.
I did this with a higher level fourth grade class and it was a ton of fun. Students don't realize they are solving difficult word problems because they are having too much fun solving the mystery!
