This is a fun activity that really helps students think about math. This pack details the launch of a Traveling Mathematician's Notebook. Once you've established the routines within your class, this notebook becomes a teaching tool, a catch-all for student created word problems, and an activity that students can have fun doing (in and out of class!)
The purpose of a traveling mathematician’s notebook is to help students make real world connections to math. They think about the tasks or situations they encounter each day and how those scenarios relate to math.
Using the mentor text, Counting on Frank, you can create your own traveling mathematician's notebook in your classroom!
This pack includes:
*a DETAILED Note to the Teacher discussing the LAUNCH of the Traveling Mathematician's Notebook
* notebook covers (2 styles)
*note to students (for inside the notebook) with 3 different closings (sincerely, from your teacher, love) --2 styles
*Blank Guideline Page (for you to fill in if you'd like)
*Blank Sign-Out Book (for you to fill in the categories)
*4 entries that could be used to model
*4 student generated entries (to use as examples if you'd like)
*Activity Sheets (2 per page) for one for group work and the other for independent work and/or homework
