I was pleasantly surprised to discover this is a story about theory of mind. When two children play in a snowstorm, their white puppy named Snowflake is lost in the snow. They ask several adults, "Have you seen Snowflake?" Each adult explains what they think about snow. The children never explain that Snowflake is the name of their dog. In addition to this difference in perspective, the illustrator cleverly reveals Snowflake on each page. The reader knows where Snowflake is! This simple, well-constructed story is a fun winter read with a powerful lesson.
