This free worksheet is more challenging than it looks! The students use a decoder to determine the value of each letter in a particular winter-themed word. They plug the values into an expression with all four operations, and then solve using the order of operations.
There are five problems, two are simple, but 3 require determination on the student's part to keep track of the negative signs, and to practice the integer rules very carefully. Teachers have different methods of showing their work, so I left the example problem blank for you to complete before you make copies for your students.
This includes an answer key.
