Each section includes:
Vocabulary Work. Students are given the vocabulary word, its meaning, and the page number it is found on. Students must then reread the text to find the vocabulary word in the text and record the sentence the word is found in. Students must also write their own sentence with each vocabulary word.
Critical Thinking Comprehension Questions: Each section has five critical thinking comprehension short answers questions. Students are reminded to find textual evidence and quotes from the book to support their answers.
Figurative Language: Each sections includes 1 page on figurative language. Students are given figurative language examples from the book and must explain the literal meaning of each figurative example.
Writing Activity: Each section includes a writing activity where students are asked to retell an event in the story through the eyes of another character.
Finally, the novel study includes a packet for early finishers or for when students have completed the entire novel study. The "end of book" packet includes a a worksheet on character traits, themes, and a final tic-tac-toe activity board.
Sample answer key is included for critical thinking comprehension questions and figurative language examples.
