Children collect, record, display, and discuss data that interests them by surveying their classmates. As they conduct class surveys, they also practice reading and writing skills and make connections to other curriculum areas. (Everyday Math)
Once a week, pose the survey question for children to answer. I have each matching survey on the Smartboard (which I will share!) Begin the year taking the survey as a whole group. As the year progresses, children can independently ask their classmates the survey questions, collect the data, and graph the results.
This is a fantastic way for children to interact with their peers. I do this routine every Monday...with a fun new survey question. The packet includes 60 pages (30 surveys with matching graphs!) The kids will love asking the survey questions, using tallies to record the data, and sharing the graphs with their families.
