Each month (September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May, and June) has 12 different prompts that focus on different styles and purposes for writing. Assignments include writing a short story, describing a specific moment, answering questions, writing persuasive essays/letters, creating lists, creating posters, drawing cartoons, writing dialogue, writing short plays, and writing poetry.
These prompts can be used for the entire class, as part of Daily 5 or Writers Workshop, or for individual students. Personally, I plan on laminating the color prompts and using Velcro to attach them to a “prompt board” that can be changed throughout the year. I may also make the black and white prompts available for students to tape into their notebooks.
