Students will use floor tiles in the classroom to create different sized squares using yarn, tape and scissors. This activity will only work if your room has square tiles for flooring. It's a great activity and students can discover the relationship between area of a square and how the dimensions relate to square roots.
You will need to provide the yarn, tape and scissors. I have found the best way to do this is to have the students tape 3 out of the 4 vertices down before cutting their string. Please contact me with any questions.
