PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This unit includes five different activities to practice each letter of the alphabet. Activities range from practicing letter formation (handwriting) sorting letter sounds, categorizing letters, connecting letters to pictures, and practicing sight words. See preview for samples of each activity.

p. 4-30 Letter Sorting
Objective:
Students will distinguish the differences between uppercase and lowercase letters, among a wide variety of typographies, by sorting them based on their attributes.

CCSS:
RF.K.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
d. Recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

31-57 Handwriting Practice
Objective:
Students will practice letter formation and identification, and make connections to words that are made using the letter being practiced.

d. Recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

RF.K.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

58-84 Letter Sounds
Objective:
Students will identify initial letter sounds in words and sort words based on their initial sounds.

CCSS:
RF.K.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds.
d. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medal vowel, and final sounds in 3-phoneme words.
RF.K.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
a. Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary and most frequent sound for each consonant.

85-111 Letter Pictures
Objective:
Students will identify and categorize various letters.

CCSS:

112-138 Fold and Read Books
Objective:
Students will connect words to pictures for each letter, while also practicing common sight words.

RF.K.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
a. Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page to page.
b. Recognize that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters.
c. Understand that words are separated by spaces in print.
d. Recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
RF.K.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
a. Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary and most frequent sound for each consonant.
c. Read common high-frequency words by sight.
