Robert Indiana designed LOVE as a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in NY. Students will use Robert Indiana’s LOVE painting as an inspiration for their original design. This lesson plan is appropriate at Holiday time or Valentines’ Day. Anti-bullying can be abstracted from this painting.
Less experienced students will enjoy using basic geometric shapes, line direction and pattern. More and most experienced students can add the concepts of positive and negative shape as well as warm and cool colors. This a great introduction to art appreciation and art history.
Included with this lesson plan are 9 pages. There is a template, a brief analysis of Robert Indiana’s LOVE painting, 2 worksheets to promote discussion, a lesson plan for the design of LOVE, and 2 printable samples.
