This monstrous pack of comprehension based activities has taken nearly ten years to put together. Each task has been tried and tested. If you run a group reading rotation then these are a must!
Thirty three unique tasks that children can do independently using their own reading book. I usually put out a new task each week so this package pretty much lasts me all year!
The tasks are made to be engaging. No young boy or girl wants to just write a purely written response to reading a story. This is why these responses often have a drawing or critical thinking element.
Kids also like doing each task more than once, for example my class loves the Trading Card task, making cards about the characters in the stories they read. They even display some of these tasks around the room they are so proud of them.
The tasks are truly unique and challenge students to think. Some focus on critical thinking skills such as the Pack Your Bags task which requires students to think about what the main character would take with them on their adventure.
Other tasks focus on comprehension skills such as predicting, activating prior knowledge or putting things in order.
There are even tasks that work on common language skills such as Blend Hunt which sees students hunting for specific diagraphs.
With such a varied bundle of tasks you can choose what suits your class, or like me use them ALL!.
Each task has a space to write the title, author, illustrator, date and students name so students can either glue them into books or keep them in folders.
