My most useful maths creation to date. I use these as an assessment tool and an invaluable 'next step' guide. The students progression is recorded on the mats with stickers. Because they are on the student's desks they are in the forefront of their world. I have used these for six years with great success. The yellow boxes are number knowledge, green are basic facts, blue are fractions, red are place value and the centre ones are the operation strategies. Let children take charge of their own learning with these colourful mats! Let the students see and understand their own 'next steps'! Gain clarity in the classroom with this printable resource. Print the student's current learning stage on one side and the students next stage learning stage on the back, laminate and get sticking!
Each student has a laminated mat on his or her desk. At the start of the year I access each child and put stickers on the skills they have mastered. From there it is easy. The children put a mark with vivid on the goal their group is working on, when they achieve it they get a sticker and I date it. When it comes time to write reports I can see the last thing they have mastered and their current goal at a glance. Report writing has never been so easy.
A super bonus is that the children can not only speak about their own goals but they are motivated to master new skills as well as being able to see what comes next. Student agency at its best!
