ABC Beginning Sound Robot is a really fun way to introduce letters and letter sounds to preschool and kindergarten students and/or to use for beginning/letter sounds RTI for your kindergarten students. There are 5 colorful pictures for each picture. Words are not included on cards to focus on the sound.
How you can use the Phonemic Robot in your classroom:
4k: This is a great way to introduce the letters and new vocabulary to your young 4K students. First show them the pictures and ask them to identify what is on the card. Then hand the cards out to 5 students (I draw sticks to make it fair). They can say what is on the card and isolate the beginning sound /b/ /b/ bear. To check for learning hand out non-examples as well and ask them to name the picture on their card and whether it starts with the /b/ sound. I like to have a special box for them to place the non-examples. I also ask them to list more words that start with that letter or sound.
K: This is a great way to re-introduce the letters to your students. We have a letter program and the students love anytime they see our Robot Friend. I like to put disguises on him as the letters change. For the letter Aa he is Alex, Bb, Ben etc. In Kindergarten I always include non-examples as well. It is a great mini-lesson, small group activity, or lead in to write-the-room.
3. RTI Kindergarten: Towards the end of the year, we use this in small groups (2 students) for RTI. Each student gets a few pictures of a particular letter and non-examples. They listen to the beginning sounds and determine if their picture has the same beginning sound as the letter on the robot.
