Product Description
This is a set of student flash cards and accompanying ABC Whole Group Instruction Teacher Flash Card Set/Wall Frieze. Both copies have the exact rebus pictures and alphabet fonts. Vowels are red and consonants are blue to help with phonics/phonemic awareness activities. If used as Teacher flash cards, I suggest that a ring clip be attached either in the top center or top corner for ease of use or you may consider using a book binder to bind the top of the cards to quickly and easily manage flipping the cards.

The cards can be arranged in a variety of manners:
1. in traditional ABC order
2. Consonants first, vowels last or vice versa
3. in Random Order
4. in the order that your basal introduces each letter

I would hole punch and attach one inch binder rings to each student set to ensure that the sets stay intact or consider using the book binding machine to bind the top of the cards. I print several sets and keep a set at my small group, one for whole language instruction (whole group), one for a literacy center (students can use either large or smaller cards to recite known letters, copy letters, write the room, etc), students can arrange the cards in alphabetic order using the wall frieze as a guide if posted in the room and easily accessible, the cards can also be utilized for pull-out, push-in, tutoring or other RTI activities.

-------->>>>>I realize that this set isn't the "cleanest" set of phonic rebus pictures or sounds available. The set contains some initial onsets that include blends and digraphs, however this is the art that was available with the set that I selected to create this product. This can be a teaching moment and used to introduce blends and digraphs later in the year. My suggestion is the emphasize the first letter sound; which I know many may disagree with due to the nature of phonics instruction. This is just an acknowledgement that the set isn't phonemically "perfect".

I would definitely plan to model how to flip the cards and the accompanying motions or manner in which you'd like to have your students point, chant/sing or move while using the cards. Many students may initially encounter some difficulty with flipping individual pages due to a lack of fine motor control and coordination. I would suggest practicing a couple of weeks while modeling and allowing time for little learner to adjust to the task of flipping and attending to the print and letter features and phonics.

This is something that literally takes as little as 5 minutes daily to build fluency and letter mastery. I model singing/chanting the alphabet sounds to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and the students literally pick it up quickly and it also incorporates multi-disciplinary methods into your instructional strategies to reach every learner as you keep them engaged.

It is my hope that you find this product both instructionally valuable as well as an enriching activity to assist your learner master their alphabetic awareness concepts.
