I created this game for my toddler to use at home to learn his upper and lower case letters and to recognize letters in an animal name. This game can be used like memory by placing several cards upside down ( I started with 6). This helped him to match the letters. As he became more familiar, I increased the amount of cards I put down face down. Each letter has a matching animal for easier recognition. This also helped my toddler to recognize what letter each animal starts with using the memory style game. When he was younger, I would point to the animal and say the animal name.
I would recommend using with 3 and 4 year old students or early in the kindergarten year. Teachers can run the cards on white card stock, laminate and use every year. This is a great activity for centers, one on one practice or with a partner.
All the animals are common for kids, the only challenge was the letter X. The animal I used is a X-Ray fish.
I hope you enjoy!
