This is a preview of my Letter Recognition curriculum. In this product you will find a house flashcard for every letter of the alphabet. I laminate the cards so that they can be reused. Take 5-10 minutes a day to go over one letter. Practice finding and circling the letters on the bottom that match the letter being practiced that day. I use dry erase markers. Each laminated letter has a corresponding worksheet that the student can use to practice writing letters. Help the child practice writing his/her letter for the day. When that is complete the child can color the rectangle and then cut it out. (If the child is not old enough to cut, you can do that part for them.) Glue the rectangle into a notebook and help them turn their rectangle into a house. Turn them loose and let them make the house into a beautiful piece of artwork. I bought an art notebook from a craft store to compile all their houses into one book. You are helping them create their own ABC book of letters. Any notebook would work just fine. Children love to create masterpieces, and this is a great way to teach letter recognition and sounds at the same time. Do not teach sounds until the child knows all of the letters by name first. I teach them that there is a mommy letter and baby letter before introducing the concept of capital and lowercase letters.
Children should have no problem catching onto letters with this really fun and colorful idea. There are many different ways you can uses this packet. Please leave any and all feedback for other
educators if you have any ideas that you use.
