This is a set of printable flash cards and posters that highlight the SOUNDS of the letters rather than words beginning with those letters. Each image clearly represents a sound (such as a baby crying to indicate the short "a" sound), and provides a solid starting point for students who are just starting with phonics.
These images are especially useful for EFL/ESL students who are starting with no knowledge of English, since a picture of an octopus for O or an igloo for I is not going to be very helpful! Fortunately, this set also works great for native-speaking students as well, and I have found that using gestures to remind students of the sound pictures is a handy scaffolding technique.
This set includes:
*One set of 3x5 flash cards with pictures and letters in 4 different fonts so each teacher can choose the font that s/he likes best.
*One set of 3x5 flash cards with images alone
*One set of 3x5 flash cards with upper case letters alone
*One set of 3x5 flash cards with lower case letters alone
*One set of 8.5x11 posters for classroom display
*2 pages of games and activities
