ABC Write the Room - Literacy Centers ---
This resource includes 3 sets of cards (five pages of numbered cards in color per set) with a total of 26 cards per set (one card for each letter of the alphabet in each of the three sets).
One set of alphabet cards has a big colorful letter at the top of each card with a sentence for each letter of the alphabet (A is for ______.) under each letter. For this blank set, students can use the alphabet line in their classroom to see what is represented for each letter and try to sound out the word to match the picture on the alphabet line or instead of using the alphabet in the classroom, students can write their own word beginning with each letter in the sentence. Students could write a sight word they have learned or any other word they know beginning with that letter on the recording sheet. There are three pages of recording sheets with 12 spaces per page to write the words for each letter and the third page has numbers 25 and 26, and then it tells students to draw a picture about their favorite word they found on the letters.
The next set of cards and recording sheets are identical to the first set with the addition of an animal picture in each blank on each card. Students can sound out each word and write the word for each picture on the recording sheets as mentioned in the first set above.
The last set of cards and recording sheets are identical to the second set with the addition of the animal name written under each animal picture. Students can simply copy the name of the animal onto the recording sheets.
These three sets provide for differentiation for a high, middle, and low level group of students.
In addition to these card sets and recording sheets, there are five pages for students to write sentences on for each of the words they find/write for each letter of the alphabet. There are five sheets (six spaces for sentences on each sheet) with a space to draw a picture about their favorite letter on the last page.
Teachers should copy the card sets on cardstock (for durability and saving for future years) or plain paper, laminate (if desired), cut apart, and then post the cards around the room. If you don't want students walking around the room, the cards can be put in a center or in a pocket chart. The cards for different levels can be copied on different colors of cardstock to provide for differentiation during small groups/centers.
***There are 23 total pages including three sets of alphabet cards (five pages per set): 15 card pages, 3 recording sheets, and 5 pages for sentence writing.
The PREVIEW shows every page included.
I hope your students have fun with this "Write the Room" activity.
