Action ABCs is a great way to get kids out of their seats and moving. It’s a brain break activity that you can use all year long.
This download includes a set of Action ABC playing cards and a set of 8 1/2 x 11 posters for each letter.
Ways to use Action ABCs
1. During the first week of school, I introduce students to the Action ABC posters and familiarize them with the actions associated with the letter of the alphabet. Each day, when students need a brain break, I call out, “Action ABCs!” Next, students spread around the room and I call out a letter. Students say the action word that goes with the letter and then perform the action.
2.The small cards are great for a quick small group activity. Put children in groups of 4 or 5. Provide each group with the Action ABC cards. Have students place the cards face down. Going around the circle, students select a card and perform the action.
3.Using the small cards students act out their name/spelling word, etc Example: Kathy (Karate Kick, arch, throw, hop, yawn)
4.Students create new action words to go with the letters of the alphabet. This is always a great activity when learning about verbs.
