“My students are working on this right now. Not only is it a great way to review math vocabulary, but it is really bringing out their creativity in math.”
This “Ready to Print” Project covers ALL of the CCSS in Math. Just copy and go! Use this project as a summative assessment after you have finished a math unit, as a creative way to review for state testing/test-prep, as an end-of-the-year keepsake, or even as a year-long project that students revisit during guided math centers!
Students use their knowledge of math concepts taught to write and illustrate an Alphabet Book. First, students complete a Proposal Page for teacher approval prior to the start of their ABC Book. Then, they are ready to begin writing their own book complete with cover page, table of contents, a page for each letter of the alphabet, and an About the Author page with space for a real photograph at the end. Each Alphabet Page has a designated space for an illustration & plenty of lines for writing explanations and examples.
This is an easy way to differentiate - complete pages together for remediation or copy each page twice and require students to compete two pages per letter for acceleration.
I have included a student self-evaluation and a teacher rubric for assessment.
