This activity is part of a series I am developing to prepare students for the English section of the ACT.
It includes a single reading passage, a five-paragraph essay, followed by fourteen questions in the style and format of the ACT. All fourteen questions focus on proper sentence structure and necessary punctuation.

THE SERIES--ACT ENGLISH PREP: TARGETED PRACTICE
The concept for this series involves using the ACT testing format for practicing the concepts, but WITHOUT mixing the concepts (which the ACT does). For example, in Parallelism Practice, all questions about the passage involve parallelism ONLY.
When completed, this series will include the same reading passage--adapted eleven different ways--to target the following concepts:
(1) Sentence Structure (Including sentence-structure commas and semicolons)
(2) Subject-Verb Agreement
(3) Unnecessary Verb Tense Shifts
(4) Subjective-Objective Forms (who vs. whom, I vs. me, etc.)
(5) Contractions and Possessive Forms
(7) Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement
(8) Commas for Introductory and Non-Essential Phrases
(9) Punctuation (E.g., commas for items in a series, colons, dashes, quotation marks
(10) Irrelevance,Verbosity, and Redundancy
(11) Details and Purpose
The final worksheet of the series will mix the concepts in the single reading passage, mimicking the format of the ACT English section. Having practiced each concept in isolation first, the students should not find the final worksheet intimidating.
