This activity is part of a series I am developing to prepare students for the English section of the ACT.
It includes a single reading passage, a five-paragraph essay, followed by twenty questions in the style and format of the ACT. All twenty questions focus on maintaining verb tense consistency..
The 8 pages include:
Cover page (1 page)

THE SERIES--ACT ENGLISH PREP: TARGETED PRACTICE
The concept for this series involves using the ACT testing format for practicing the concepts, but WITHOUT mixing the concepts (which the ACT does). For example, in Parallelism Practice, all questions about the passage involve parallelism ONLY.
When completed, this series will present the same reading passage--adapted seven different ways--to target the following concepts:
(1) Sentence Structure (including sentence-structure commas and semicolons)
(3) Agreement (subject-verb and pronoun-antecedent)
(4) Unnecessary Verb Tense Shifts
(5) Contractions and Possessive Forms
(7) Irrelevance,Verbosity, and Redundancy
The final worksheet of the series will mix the concepts in the single reading passage, mimicking the format of the ACT English section. Having practiced each concept in isolation first, the students should not find the final worksheet intimidating.
The Comprehensive Worksheet could also be used as a pretest to see which of the target worksheets would be most beneficial for individual students. The answer key will identify which target is tested in each problem.
When complete, the entire series will be available as a bundle and linked here.
