), all work together to help a child make sense of the text they are reading.
Activate Reading Comprehension System was developed over years of seeing so many different learning styles and so many different struggles with children learning to read. This resource begins with a whole class series of lessons
that can be used with any book. If you are like me, then this is music to your ears for two reasons:
1. Mentor texts are amazing things to help engage your learners
2. Teaching small groups while the others are working independently is HARD! This
system will enable you to build community with your students AND begin teaching
reading within the first couple of weeks of school because it is done with the whole

editable page in sections which you will introduce one each day. Once this is

to separate it into. The choice is yours. I usually take 1 1/2-2 weeks for one
★ Partner prompts "bookmark" style helper cards to enable your students to guide their partners through the visualizing and summarizing process as well as reminders about listening. (You can back to back print and laminate these.) These you keep year after year.
★ Follow up lessons for INDEPENDENT reading work using guided reading books or mentor texts that are levelled at your students' reading levels. Perfect for when you begin to take guided reading groups.
★ Mini posters and printables for whole class and independent work.
