This is a 30 page flipchart with quick review of what key words to look for when solving fraction word problems. This flipchart includes 4 question pages asking the fifth graders how to add, subtract, multiply, divide fractions and what key words to look for. It then goes into a game introduction where class is put into teams or table groups and as a word problem is up on the board, they talk as a group and discuss the key words in the problem and decide on which operation they should do. Next they each solve the problem. They discuss their answers and agree on 1 TEAM answer. Teams that are correct get to spin. I use a clear spinner with a 10, 20, 30 and 50 point option. I wrote on a blank spinner. You could also use the tools from Activinspire resources for a spinner or use a dice. There are over 20 word problems. This would last 2 days of math review for End of Grade Tests. The answer is at the bottom, just drag the rectangle away to see which groups were correct. If you have more than 1 team get it wrong, it's a great opportunity to talk about it and solve it as a class. Excellent for test prep and problem solving practice after teaching adding, subtraction, multiplication, division of fractions and unit fractions and mixed numbers.
