Looking for an easy way to teach and test higher level vocabulary words that are found on the ACT and SAT tests? Then this is for you!
This unit contains 600 words that are found on the standardized ACT and SAT tests. They include high frequency words that many high school students should have seen or already know, but also include are words that are new and may provide a challenge for test takers to understand in context.
The format of this unit is simple:
There are 30 lists and each list contains 20 words in an easy to read table that includes the word’s part of speech and an EASY TO UNDERSTAND definition. These definitions are not taken straight from the Webster’s Dictionary. They are written in words that include synonyms that most students should already understand which connects to their foundation knowledge. So instead of simply repeating a long, convoluted definition that includes words they don’t know, they can connect short, workable definitions into their working memory.
Webster’s Definition: the offspring of one progenitor to the furthest generation
My Definition: Something remembered for future generations
In addition to the lists, there is a quick matching quiz for each list with an answer key, allowing the teacher the opportunity to assess their vocabulary knowledge.
This is great practice for a High School English Summer School class or for extra practice for a Homeschooling parent.
