Math Riddle worksheets are the perfect way to practice new skills. Not only are the riddles clever (and occasionally funny), but they also enable the student to self-assess as they complete the puzzle. If they can’t find their answer on the worksheet or the riddle doesn’t make sense, it’s clear that they made a mistake and need to go back and check their work!
This riddle worksheet consists of 36 problems in which the students are required to add and subtract integers. This activity should serve as practice of applying the rules for adding and subtracting integers. Therefore, I would not permit them to use calculators.
I prefer to use these worksheets as homework assignments (because they are self-checking), but they can also be used as classwork, partner/group work, or an assessment.
Common Core Standards:
Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers.
Understand p + q as the number located a distance |q| from p, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether q is positive or negative.
Understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, p - q = p + (-q).
