I’ve been teaching kids for more than 20 years to master the addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. For some it’s easy, but for many it’s really difficult. I like to use mnemonics techniques as well as pattern logic to teach them. I firmly believe that most elementary teachers rush through the process of preparing a child to memorize these facts and thus end up with a classroom of students who still don’t have good recall. The “trick” is in set up. Spend some time with patterns counting by multiples and do it with the hundreds chart. Chant those multiples when your kids are lining up. Then the mnemonic tricks will really work. For years, teachers have asked me to come in their class and show their kids the “tricks” I use to teach math facts quickly … my posters were made with magic markers until now. FINALLY, I’ve put them to print. Hopefully you’ll find them useful. If you would like to know when I post those, just click “Follow Me”.
